DOK LEIPZIG presents

Highlights from previous festival editions

Every fall, filmmakers flock to the Leipzig International Festival for Documentary and Animated Film, or DOK Leipzig for short, the largest festival for artistic documentary film in Germany. Founded in 1955, it was a unique meeting place for filmmakers from East and West during the Cold War. In this tradition, the Leipzig festival continues today to stand for films that stand up for peace and human dignity. It celebrates the free spirit, the free word and the consciously placed image. The selection of films presented here - quite a few of which have won important awards - open up insights into microcosms very close to us (e.g. Café Waldluft), but also lead into the far distance (Im Strahl der Sonne). They make it possible to better understand human action in history and the present and make visible the powerlessness, but also the dignity and strength of the weak - even in the face of the worst violence (Cahier Africain).
